ALASKA SAFE DRIVER ACADEMY LLC OFFERS THE BEST SAFETY IN FLEET DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAMS.
WE ARE AAA CERTIFIED TO PRESENT THE DRIVER IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR FLEET DRIVERS.
Our lead instructor has taught defensive driving classes to fleet and corporate drivers for over a decade. Some of the organizations that Mr. Knowlton has delivered training to in his career are:
Washington Crane & Hoist
The AAA Driver Improvement Program is one of the curriculums recognized by the State of Alaska DMV for "Defensive Driving" programs. We present this curriculum to fleet drivers with your companies goals for safety in mind.
COMPANY POLICIES AND SPECIAL TRAINING REQUESTS:
If your company has specific policies that you wish to have addressed by our instructor, or if you have special considerations for your drivers environment or vehicles, we can incorporate these into the training that is specifically designed for your company.
HANDS ON SKILLS:
We are the only driving school in Alaska that is SKIDCAR System Inc. certified. As such, we can offer your fleet drivers the most unique experience in training. SKIDCAR training is not just about winter driving skills.
It is about total vehicle control and driver awareness.
We can safely set up a distracted driver or fatigued driver (micro sleep) scenario in our SKIDCAR program to help your drivers understand the true importance of proper trip management and driver readiness.
Because the training is done on a closed course and the instructor has full control of the vehicle, we can safely allow a driver to experience the serious results of errors made by the driver. All of this is done at lower speeds (5mph to 25mph) but replicates a driver moving at 30mph to 65mph.
There are great many things that are being taught incorrectly by instructors who "theorize" on how to handle emergencies or loss of control. The SKIDCAR completely eliminates all hypothesis or theories. In the SKIDCAR, we show drivers how to correctly handle emergencies and why much of the advice on "skids" is not only incorrect, some of it is extremely dangerous.
One of the most common errors is the "swerve" maneuver. When done at low speeds of 10mph to 15mph, it seems impressive and one may conclude that it will scale up to 30mph, 45mph or even 65mph. Sadly, it won't! You should NEVER swerve suddenly at higher speeds. In particular, you should NEVER swerve then brake hard at higher speeds. This will result in a violent unbalancing of the vehicle, often sending it careening out of control and either into a collision or a roll over.
Anti-lock brakes, Traction Control and Electronic Stability Control (ABS, TC and ESC) are explained in class and experienced by drivers in our SKIDCAR course. While these systems are very good at correcting errors made by a driver (too much brake, too much acceleration, too much steering), ABS, TC, and ESC simply cannot overcome the laws of physics when drivers make errors at higher speeds or in very low traction environments. The SKIDCAR allows drivers to understand how to stabilize their vehicle and "feed" grip to the vehicle as opposed to expecting the vehicle to correct their mistakes.
In our SKIDCAR, we can safely replicate this failure at only 20mph and then demonstrate to drivers the proper methods to avoid an obstacle or manage an emergency at high speeds. No hypothesis, no theories. We know what works and we know why. We hope to share this life saving experience with your drivers.
Do you need an in car evaluation of your drivers? We employ State of Alaska certified 3rd party Road Examiners. Your drivers can benefit from an on road evaluation to help them remember the basics, which many forget over time. Your company image, insurance costs and workforce will greatly benefit from good driver behavior. We can help your company with meaningful, respectful evaluations and feedback.
We can deliver training programs at our location or yours.
